Description

1924 Gibson F2 Mandolin
(Serial No. 78341 FON 11148A Virzi No. 10295) This is about as nice as it gets in a Gibson oval hole mandolin. This is a spectacular Loar era F2. 1924 was the second year for Lloyd Loar at Gibson, and his innovations are evident throughput this mandolin. Almost no playing wear. Deep rich red sunbust is original finish. Completely original hardware. Flamed maple back and sides, truss rod in the neck, adjustable bridge, original transition clamp style pickguard, and chocolate buttons on the arrow end plate tuners. Neck is straight, frets are good. Fitted from Gibson with a Virzi Sound Producer, and the label for the Virzi is also intact. Sound is rich and full, with the pop you are looking for in a oval hole. Set up by my luthier so it plays like butter. The big ear on the peghead was reglued and the peghead face and backplate buffed. Shows some expected minor crazing on the back. Comes with a nice red lined original hardshell case.
