Description
1906 Gibson F model mandolin with Orville Gibson label, number 4976. Early 3-point F style mandolin with beautifully ornamented fingerboard and Orville Gibson's portrait looking out from the soundhole. This mandolin is of great interest to historians and collectors as it is a rare remnant of the early period of the "Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA" and is historically important as the first scroll style instrument created from Orville's fertile imagination. Features include black finish spruce top with hand inlaid pickguard of tortoise shell and mother of pearl; burgundy back finish, mahogany stain on the neck. All appointments are original, including tuners, original bridge and "pineapple" style tailpiece. A big sound, one of the best sounding example of these early mandolins we have heard
